We have adopted byelaws under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 to enforce registration of acupuncture, tattooing, ear-piercing and electrolysis.
These require each premises and individual operator offering ear piercing, electrolysis and skin piercing to be registered with the local authority. With officers from the Department of Health, we regularly inspect operators to ensure health and safety regulations are maintained.

We have also adopted a voluntary body piercing code of practice as at present there are no statutory regulations to enforce it.
