Swanwick & BurridgeAn image of Swanwick Nature Reserve

These villages are on the western boundaries of the borough. Swanwick extends north from Park Gate past its railway station and the M27 motorway to merge with the agricultural and residential village of Burridge, which is located along the Botley Road.

Both are well-known throughout the British Isles for their excellent strawberry fields. A local railway station helped to expand the strawberry growing from the 1880's onwards. There are a few older houses in the area but the majority are modern developments. At Swanwick is NATS's Air Traffic Control Centre which was designed by Building Design Partnership. The Control Centre is set in a series of attractive Nature Reserves to which, in places, there is free access for visitors.
