The Borough of Fareham has a variety of accessible areas of natural beauty from countryside to coastline.
The Council manages 134 hectares of land for nature conservation. This is divided into 25 varied sites which are spread across the Borough. It is the role of the Council's Countryside Service to maintain, manage and develop these sites. The following pages offer an insight into the variety of different habitats which exist, how they are managed and who is involved.
The service, undertakes practical conservation work and ecological audits. It also runs public events throughout the year, encouraging local people to participate in the care of their environment.
The service has and continues to develop a wide range of working partnerships both inside and outside the borough on a variety of different levels. Consequently, it has been possible to maintain an effective work programme required to sustain and improve the local natural environment and accomplish some rewarding achievements.
These partnerships include working with volunteer and community groups, private landowners such as farmers, local companies, schools and individuals within the Borough.
Specialist advice is offered to any organisation, group or individual who is interested in the well being and future of Fareham's countryside. Advice includes habitat management, landscape enhancement, arboriculture and practical conservation skills.
The service creates opportunities for and undertakes educational and interpretation activities to enable people to gain a greater understanding of the countryside and the issues affecting it.
Each year we work hard to find new and fun ideas to promote these sites, visit the Fareham event calendar to discover seasonal events in your area.
