Fareham planning approvals highest in the country

Fareham Borough Council granted the highest percentage of planning approvals out of the 164 district Councils in England, in the 12 months to December 2024.

The Council was able to grant permission for 98% of the planning applications that it had decided across the 12-month period. Fareham Borough Council regularly features amongst the top performing authorities in terms of the number of approvals granted.

The Council has achieved this through its willingness to provide advice before planning applications are formally submitted to it. Working with individual residents, homeowners, developers and their representatives on all types and sizes of planning applications, the Council provides advice to make sure applications are fully prepared and comply with national and local planning policies.

Cllr David Foot, Chairman of the Planning Committee, said: "The Council recognises the value of providing advice to its customers before they submit any formal applications to the Council. Providing pre-application advice means that the Council can identify all the relevant issues, in turn helping to reduce delays in getting decisions on planning applications and reducing the likelihood of abortive and potentially costly work. I would encourage residents and developers to seek the Council’s advice, prior to the submission of their planning application."
