Press Release

1 April 2025

Community funding approved for Portchester Repair Café

The Repair Café is the latest good cause to be awarded grant funding through the Council’s Community Fund.

The Repair Café is a new venture which will support residents by fixing items such as small household appliances, clothing items and bikes, reducing the amount of waste going to landfill. It launched on 29 March, with sessions now being held at Portchester Community Centre on the last Saturday of each month from 10:30am-1:30pm.

The Repair Café was awarded £1,363.27 from the Community Fund, with the remainder being raised through fundraising donations. Going forward, it will be community-funded through donations from visitors who use the service and introduce a ‘pay it forward’ scheme to ensure accessibility for all.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Connie Hockley, said:

“The Community Fund is designed to support projects just like this one to help the wider Fareham community. There has been an overwhelmingly positive response from the residents of Portchester in relation to The Repair Café and there is already an established team of 16 volunteers with diverse repair skills who have signed up to help. I encourage residents to try the new service before they throw items away, as they can reduce the amount sent to landfill, and hopefully save some money in the process.”
