Assheton Court construction contract awarded following Homes England Funding

Fareham Housing has announced today that its Assheton Court sheltered housing development in Portchester has been awarded £7,560,000 of grant funding from the Homes England Affordable Homes programme.

The former Assheton Court has now been demolished and will be replaced with 60 one and two bedroom apartments in a new, purpose-built, affordable housing development for the over 55s. This Homes England funding will enable the Council to offer the homes at Social Rent (the most affordable of affordable homes).

Following a robust tender process, building contractor Feltham Construction Ltd has been selected to complete the new and improved Assheton Court. Feltham Construction will start preliminary works on site later this month, which includes extending the hoarding into a small area of the adjacent Long Stay East car park, which will become part of the new development. While there will be some temporary disruption in the car park due to the redevelopment, realignment work has enabled there to be no net loss of car parking spaces in the Council owned public car parks.

Executive Member for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Fred Birkett said: “I am delighted that we have received this extraordinary amount of funding from Homes England as it means we can provide much needed housing for older people in the Borough at the most affordable social rent. Not only that, but Feltham Construction Ltd will help us deliver these homes which have been designed with energy efficiency and climate change in mind, to help mitigate soaring fuel prices for our residents.”

Adam Jervis, Construction Director at Feltham Construction Ltd, added: ““We are delighted to be working with Fareham Borough Council on the Assheton Court residential scheme to deliver 60 very much needed units of sheltered accommodation for the over 55s. We are very pleased to be able to add Fareham Borough Council to our client base and look forward to bringing our experience in delivering high quality schemes to Portchester.”
