Press Release

4 June 2024

Fareham events return for the Borough’s golden year

Fareham Borough Council is pleased to announce a variety of events taking place across the Borough in this, its 50th year, with plenty for adults and children of all ages to enjoy.

June marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings and, to commemorate this in Fareham, a two-day event at Solent Airport Daedalus has been organised by Montserrat Events on behalf of the Council. Activities begin at 10am on Saturday 8 June and Sunday 9 June. Visitors can enjoy static aircraft and flying displays, family entertainment, music and dancing, and much more. Further information, including how to buy tickets, can be found here: www.daedalus80.co.uk.

One of Fareham’s most popular events, 999 Day, returns to West Street this year on 22 June. Sponsored by SA Energy LTD, the fun starts at 10am and carries on until 4pm, with lots of local emergency service heroes and their vehicles on display including Police, Fire Service, South Central Ambulance Service, RNLI, Hampshire Search and Rescue, Coastguard and much more. Fareham Library will be joining in the activities with 999 day crafts.

July sees our celebration of 50 years a Borough, with our Borough Birthday Bash taking place in Fareham Shopping Centre and West Street over the weekend of 13 and 14 July. Families can enjoy a free sandpit, free children's activities and fun fair rides (small charge for the rides). Sponsored by Mountjoy and with materials supplied by Travis Perkins, the sandpit will continue to be free to use all summer long, until 16 September.

Play Day is back on 14 August at Holly Hill Woodland Park, an event popular with families who enjoy woodland themed activities. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic while enjoying a day in the woods. Tickets for the event can be purchased online later in the year.

Access All Areas provides a range of fun activities throughout the summer holidays for 11 to 16 year olds who live or go to school in Fareham, and the scheme will once again be running in August. Young people will have the opportunity to choose up to 3 activities for a cost of £10 and, as a way of celebrating the Borough’s 50th anniversary, the 50th person to register for the scheme this year will win a prize. Registration will open soon; check the Council’s website here: www.fareham.gov.uk/aaa.

A celebration of all things vintage takes place at our Bygone Fareham event on 14 September, with classic cars and vintage singing and dancing from the 1970's in Fareham Town Centre throughout the day. To mark the Borough’s 50th anniversary we are particularly interested in hearing from owners with cars that are 50 years old or that were driven in 1974. If you are interested in displaying your classic vehicle please contact the Leisure team on 01329 236100 or email leisure@fareham.gov.uk.

Following the success of Funyard Events’ Artisan Markets earlier this year, the Council will be welcoming two more to the pedestrianised area of West Street, on 28 September and 26 October. Between 10am and 4pm, visitors can find unique products, gifts and crafts while enjoying delicious street food and a variety of hot and cold drinks.

Our most spectacular event of the year takes place on 23 November, where Fareham’s Christmas Lights will be switched on. The gold-themed event to celebrate the Borough’s 50th anniversary will have market stalls, fun fair rides, food and drink, street and stage performers and much more.

Information about these and other events and activities happening in the Borough can be found on the Council’s events page: www.fareham.gov.uk/events.

If your business is interested in being a sponsor at one of the Council’s events, please see the sponsorship opportunities at the Council’s website: www.fareham.gov.uk/sponsorship or contact the Leisure team: leisure@fareham.gov.uk
