Have your say on Council’s Empty Homes Strategy

Fareham Borough Council has launched a consultation today on its proposed Empty Homes Strategy, which sets out plans for bringing long-term empty homes in the Borough back into use.

There are currently 282 properties which are recognised as long term empty in the Borough; 129 of which are empty retirement living homes. Although the quantity of long-term empty homes in Fareham Borough remains relatively low, the Council recognises that empty homes can be disrupting to local communities, and frustrating for nearby residents.

With this in mind, the Council has launched a six-week consultation to hear resident’s views on its proposed Empty Homes Strategy. You can see the draft strategy document and have your say here: www.fareham.gov.uk/consultations

The consultation will run for a period of six weeks with a closing date of 10 July 2023.

Executive Member for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, Councillor David Foot said: “Homes which remain empty long term can not only become an eyesore in our community but prevent others from accessing much-needed homes in the Borough. This strategy looks at how we can encourage owners of empty homes to bring their properties back into use as well as how the Council can help address problematic empty homes. I encourage residents to have their say on this consultation so we can incorporate their views into the final strategy.”
