Press Release

22 March 2021

Council to mark National Day of Reflection

Fareham Borough Council will hold a minute’s silence at midday tomorrow (Tuesday), joining with people across the country to mark a National Day of Reflection.

The silence will mark a year to the day since the first national lockdown began and is a chance to reflect on those who have lost their lives due to the pandemic.

Councillors, officers based at the Civic Offices and the Depot, and those working out and about in the Borough, will be taking part.

It is also hoped that people will help create a nationwide ‘beacon of remembrance’ on their doorsteps by shining phones, candles or torches into the sky at 8pm.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Seán Woodward, said:

“This has been such a difficult twelve months, with so many of us losing loved ones. This Day of Reflection is a chance to join together as a nation in a collective sense of loss, which I hope will be a source of comfort and support to those who are bereaved. As we fall silent, we will also be hoping for brighter times ahead.”
