Volunteers to get a letter of thanks from Fareham Borough Council

Dozens of volunteers who have helped support vulnerable people across Fareham during the Covid-19 pandemic have received an official letter of thanks from the Council.

Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Pamela Bryant, and Executive Leader, Cllr Seán Woodward, hand-delivered the thank you letters to some of the volunteers working with Acts of Kindness at its temporary depot at Daedalus.

The Mayor of Fareham said:

“Thank you all very much from the bottom of our hearts for the time that you give up to help some of the disadvantaged people in our Borough. I am sure it is appreciated by all of them. It is amazing to see how much is going on here to help people through this crisis. I am delighted to present Acts of Kindness with a certificate from the Rotary Club of Fareham in recognition of their fantastic efforts during the Lockdown.”

Volunteers with Acts of Kindness have been running the food bank, delivering food parcels and other essential supplies to vulnerable people, making regular phone calls to the lonely, collecting donations and all sorts of other tasks to support people during the crisis.

Kerry Snuggs, who set up Acts of Kindness, said: “We have had about 200 volunteers over the past 15 weeks and this is a nice way of recognising them for what they have done to help others. We have helped more than 3,000 people in that time - people who are generally on the poverty line or relying on benefits, they may be on reduced income because of furlough, elderly people who are feeling isolated or people sheltering because of illness.”

In the coming weeks hundreds more volunteers across the Borough will receive a special letter from the Council. The Mayor and Cllr Woodward said they wanted to do something to recognise those people that had put themselves out to help others in the community.

Cllr Woodward said: “Sending a letter of thanks to those that have volunteered for the likes of Acts of Kindness and other groups that have been helping in our communities is the very least that we can do. The work that they have done supporting vulnerable people in our communities has been excellent and they have stepped in and filled a gap that we were not equipped to do.

“We know that the people they have supported have been extremely grateful for the contact they have had with these groups and this is a way to say that the whole of the Borough is grateful for them too.”

Kerry Snuggs was also presented with a Point of Light certificate and letter from Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Fareham MP Suella Braverman presented the official recognition for exceptional service in the community for Kerry and her team of volunteers.
