Press Release

2 January 2017

Welborne – a Garden Village in the making

Welborne is set to become one of fourteen new English garden villages.  The announcement was made today by the Government's Homes & Communities Agency (HCA).

Welborne is a perfect fit for the Government's landmark initiative which has been rolled out by the HCA to support the delivery of new communities comprising between 1,500 and 10,000 homes and based on garden city principles.  These will ensure that the real and important benefits that people rightly expect are secured from the outset - quality design with cutting-edge technology, local employment opportunities, accessible green space near homes, high quality public realm. Great places for great communities.

Welborne Garden Village will comprise 6,000 new homes, shops, employment space, new schools, community facilities and plenty of outdoor space.  Importantly it will also be supported by infrastructure that links it to Fareham Town Centre and the improvement of junction 10 of the M27 to make it an "all moves" junction.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: "Welborne epitomises the Government's ambitions to get Britain building again and help more people to realise their dream of home ownership and I am delighted that Fareham Borough Council has been included in today's announcement.

"Welborne forms an integral part of our housing plans for Fareham and will provide much needed homes and jobs for our residents and their families.  I very much look forward to working with the HCA and other significant partners to realise our vision of an attractive new community purpose-built for life in the 21st Century sitting well in its surroundings."
