Council garagesFareham Housing

Fareham Borough Council owns garages throughout the Borough which are available to rent if you wish to store a vehicle. They cannot be used to store furniture or to use as a workshop.

All garage dimensions are 4.7m deep and 2.76m wide.  The size of the door is 2.20m wide and 1.90m high.  Applicants must be 18 years or over to be offered a garage tenancy and must have a permanent address.

Garages are available to everyone to rent but priority will be given to existing Council Tenants and Leaseholders provided their Rent or Service Charge is not in arrears.

Providing they are available, you may rent more than one garage at a time. You will need to provide the log book for each vehicle in each garage.

Weekly rent charges are:

It is our policy to charge VAT to Council tenants and named leaseholders if you rent a garage that is more than one mile from your home. You would then be charged the non-Council tenant rent rate. If the garage you want to rent falls into this category, you will be notified of this before you sign up.

Applying for a Garage Tenancy

To apply to rent a garage please complete the tenancy of a garage application form PDF (125 KB) and return to the address shown on the form or fill in an online tenancy of a garage application form.

The application form asks you to name the area where you would like to rent in.  If you are interested in more than one area you only need to complete the application form once and we will send you a list of all vacancies across the whole Borough.  If the area you are interested has no availability then we hold a waiting list which you would be able to join.  Some areas in the Borough are more sought after than others so it is impossible to let you know how long you will have to wait before being made an offer.  Once a garage has been offered to you, if you choose to sign and accept the tenancy, you must provide some personal identification and a log book for the vehicle you will be storing in it. These must match your name and current home address. Garages will not be let without these being provided.

The map below shows the areas in which Fareham Borough Council owns garages, these are not the garages which are currently available to rent.  Once you have completed an application form we will send you a list of current vacancies.

Terminating a Garage Tenancy

To terminate a garage tenancy, you must give us one week notice.  All tenancies end on a Sunday and the keys must be handed back by noon the following day. You can do this by completing a garage termination form PDF (124 KB) or by contacting us in writing.

Any rent arrears must be cleared before the termination can be accepted. If you fall behind with the rent, we may issue a 'notice to quit' and you will be asked to clear the outstanding debt.

If you would like more information please contact tenancy services on 01329 236100 or e-mail housing@fareham.gov.uk
