A personal emergency alarm helps you live independently, providing access to support and a response service in the event of an emergency at home. The alarm is linked to a highly dedicated and caring team, 24 hours a day, who can take the necessary steps to help you.
Fareham Borough Council uses this technology to help elderly and disabled residents to remain living at home.
The alarms are intended to provide personal safety and offer you and your family peace of mind.
You will need a telephone line and an electric socket nearby to allow the Personal Emergency Alarm equipment to be installed. It is made up of a small base unit that is located near to the telephone. The base unit has a red button that you can press if you need help.
You will also be given a pendant which can either be worn around your neck or on your wrist. The pendant has a button that you can press if you can't reach the unit, so if you fall, have an accident or are feeling unwell, support is there at the push of a button.
When you press either button an operator is automatically called, who will be able to speak to you via the alarm unit. The operator can then decide what is required. This might include:
The operators are available 24 hours a day all year round.
The equipment is installed by a member of the Council's Sheltered Housing Team. The installation of the equipment is free. There is a small weekly charge to cover the cost of monitoring, maintenance and equipment testing and checking any changes to personal or contact details.
The charge for this service, which includes monitoring the alarm and maintenance to the unit, is £4.61 per week.
All of our Personal Emergency Alarms are monitored by Chichester Community Careline, who have been operating for 27 years and are nationally recognised as one of the leading control centers in the country.
You will need to have a key safe fitted at your property to ensure that, in the event of an emergency, the appropriate service can gain entry.
