Occupation prohibited by law

If your property has been subjected to a legally recognised "prohibition from occupation" order, the property will be exempt from Council Tax.

However, if the property continues to be occupied, or becomes reoccupied while the order is still in force (by squatters, for example), the occupiers will be liable for Council Tax and the exemption will come to an end.

If you want to apply for an exemption, email counciltax@fareham.gov.uk. We will require a copy of the prohibition order and will generally seek confirmation that the property is empty before we will grant an exemption.

You must inform the Council if you are no longer entitled to a discount or exemption. We will take legal action against anyone who fraudulently claims a discount or exemption.

For further information please contact the Council Tax office on Tel: 01329 824651, or e-mail counciltax@fareham.gov.uk.
