Thriving Together: Small Business Growth Day at CEMAST College
Fareham Borough Council is delighted to be sponsoring the networking lunch at the 'Thriving Together: Small Business Growth Day' at CEMAST on Thursday 27 June. Thriving Together is a day of free workshops designed for start-up and growth businesses, including a networking lunch and small business expo. The day is an innovative collaboration between Solent Business Skills and Solutions, Portsmouth City Council, Southampton City Council, South Hampshire College Group, Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Fareham Borough Council, to show a united approach to supporting businesses across the region.
The welcome speech will be from Shelina Permalloo, winner of MasterChef in 2012 and local entrepreneur from Southampton. Places are limited and booking up quickly - click here to choose your workshops and reserve your place now.
Only three weeks until Fareham's big D-Day celebrations!
D-Day 80th anniversary celebrations are happening over the 8-9 June 2024 on the historic former WWII airfield HMS Daedalus (now Solent Airport). The airport is a significant location in history as it was the busiest airfield on D-Day with 435 sorties, so a fitting place to hold these important celebrations. Local residents and businesses are encouraged to attend this fun, affordable community event, and take in the living history where they can experience WWII military equipment, services and displays.
There will be exciting flying and vintage aircraft displays plus entertainment throughout the weekend including a parachute drop, live music, field gun runs, marching bands, a funfair and a motorcycle display team. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own food and camping chairs on-site. Advance tickets are just £12 per adult (more on the day) so be sure to click here to book yours now.

New skills programmes are hitting the mark
The first Solent Partners Skills Bootcamps were a great success with over 200 people signing up to one of six free courses. The good news is that the next wave of Skills Bootcamps will cover even more sectors, offering upskilling and training opportunities for those across the Solent who are self-employed, employed or looking for work.
Giles Collighan, founder of the Portsmouth Distillery (pictured above), successfully completed a Digital Marketing Skills Bootcamp earlier this year, and said: "We've already started to see positive changes within the business as we're properly planning ahead with our social media posts to raise awareness of our products and engage with people to build up customer loyalty. I'd definitely recommend Skills Bootcamps."
Many of the courses run in the first wave, like the one that Giles took part in, are running again, with new bootcamps covering more sectors coming online soon. These include:
- Business skills for creatives
- Health and social care
- Catering and hospitality
- Digital marketing
- Sustainability
- Marine electrician
- Transport and logistics
- AI leadership
- Software development
- Screen industries.
Skills Bootcamps are perfect for business owners, the unemployed, those looking to change career or upgrade their skills. Click here for more details about Skills Bootcamps.
