Fareham Borough Council is funding a Winter Fuel Payment Scheme to assist pensioners who have not received the Winter Fuel Allowance from Government in 2024. If eligible, this scheme will pay all, or a proportion of, your 2024/2025 Council Tax, so that you can use those funds to help with energy bills. The maximum we will pay under this scheme is £200 and the minimum payment will be £50.
You may be entitled to receive this assistance if ALL the following conditions apply to you:
All the above conditions must apply to your circumstances. If any don't, unfortunately, we cannot help you under this scheme.
You are invited to apply for assistance with your fuel bills by completing this application: Council Tax - Winter Fuel Payment Application
The maximum value of help per household is £200. This sum will be credited to your Council Tax bill for the year 2024/25, so that you can use those funds to help with energy bills. If you have already paid your Council Tax bill in 2024/2025, you will be entitled to a refund of the amount paid for use towards your fuel bills. Refunds will not exceed the proportion of the bill you are liable to pay; for example if your annual Council Tax bill is £120, the amount of your refund will be £120. The minimum payment under this scheme will be £50.
The scheme is open to applications (one per household) until 28 February 2025, or until funds have been exhausted. The fund will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Applications will be reviewed, and discounts approved by a board (made up of officers from the Council's Revenues, Benefits and Housing Welfare Support teams). The Council reserves the right to change the criteria of the scheme at any point.
We will endeavour to deal with these forms within a reasonable timescale. Please do not call us to chase progress until after 15 January 2025.
Fareham Borough Council will process your personal information appropriately and legally in accordance with relevant national legislation. The data collected will be primarily used to assess your entitlement to a winter fuel payment. It may also be used in conjunction with ongoing council tax and benefits assessments.
