We kicked off our celebrations a little early with our new golden Christmas lights display, with cools and warm tones, along with our magnificent golden illuminated present under the performance stand in West Street. This is part of a five year contract with The Festive Lighting Company and the previous Christmas lights will be recycled.
Throughout 2024, the Council will be using a special 50th anniversary logo and organised events and activities will have a golden theme, so that residents and businesses can celebrate this milestone together.
The Council will also be supporting its district centres once again through its Live Love Local campaign. New banner flags with a golden colour scheme will be going up around the Borough and special 50th anniversary flags will be flying in Fareham West Street.
We will be updating this page throughout the year with the latest events, celebrations, community activities and competitions, so watch this space for more information.
You can read about some of Fareham's milestones from the last 50 years here.
Fareham residents are the heart of the Borough, so the Council is asking for everyone to send in their pictures from the Borough taken in the last 50 years.
You can do this by uploading them to Facebook, tagging @FarehamBC; by emailing them to publicity@fareham.gov.uk or by bringing in physical photographs to the Civic Offices in Fareham to be scanned. There will be a post box for photographs in reception, but please be sure to include your name and contact details so we can let you know when the photos will be ready to collect. Also remember to include details of what the photograph is showing and any other interesting information.
Once we have enough photos collected, we will create a special gallery page on our website to showcase these historic moments.
If you are a local group or organisation that is also celebrating 50 years this year, please let us know. Email us at publicity@fareham.gov.uk with the details.

The Council's celebrated its 50th anniversary with a free sandpit, free children's activities and fun fair rides (small charge for the rides) in Fareham Shopping Centre and the pedestrianised area of West Street. There was a free pop-up beach for use all summer long, located outside B&M.
Activities especially for 11 to 16 year olds were available every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout August. For this year only, the 50th person to register for the scheme won a prize! Find out more here.
Our popular Bygone Fareham event featured classic cars and vintage singing and dancing from the 1970's in Fareham Town Centre throughout the day. To mark the Borough's 50th anniversary we were particularly interested in hearing from owners with cars that are 50 years old or that were driven in 1974. If you are interested in displaying your classic vehicle next year please contact the Leisure team on 01329 236100 or email leisure@fareham.gov.uk.
The final Council event of the year will bring the Borough's 50th anniversary to an end. This gold-themed occasion will have market stalls, fun fair rides, food and drink, street and stage performers and much more. Find out more here.
