Following the sad news about the loss of HM Queen Elizabeth II, announced by Buckingham Palace [insert date, time], the Council joins the nation in a time of mourning.

Residents may be interested to note the following arrangements in Fareham which have been prepared in line with statutory protocol as a mark of respect for our Queen:

• The Union Flag will be flown at half-mast today outside the Civic Offices and on the six flagpoles on West Street.
• A letter will be sent to the Private Secretary of HM Queen Elizabeth II from the Mayor of Fareham expressing the sadness of the Council and people of the Borough of Fareham at the news of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
• A book of condolence will be set up today on the ground floor of the Civic Offices for members of the public. Books of condolence will also be available at Lockswood, Portchester and Stubbington libraries. All books of condolence will remain open until 17:00 on the day of the funeral. An e-book of condolence is available from the Royal website.
• Flowers may be laid under the podium in West Street or under the flagpole outside the Civic Offices. Please note all flowers will be moved to the grass in front of the Osborn Centre each day.
• On [insert date – D+1] a Proclamation will be made at St James's Palace at 11:00 (14:00 if a Sunday) the flags raised to full-mast from 11:00am.
• On [insert date – D+2] the Proclamation will be read in Fareham by the Mayor at 13:30 at the Podium. Flags will be returned to half-mast at 14:00.
• On the eve of the State Funeral [insert date] a memorial service will be held at St Peter and St Paul Church in Fareham. The service will begin at [insert time].
• On the day of the State Funeral there will be a two-minute silence at 11:00am.
• On the day following the State Funeral flags will be returned to full-mast at 08:00 and books of condolence closed at the end of the day at 17:00.
