FYC elections

Fareham Youth Council (FYC) are a group of young people that help make sure the views of young people are heard by local decision makers in Fareham. The group meet every couple of weeks to discuss and work on projects they are taking part in.

Every year the Youth Council hold their own elections to decide who should take on each role within the group. Please take a look at the job roles and manifestos, and vote for who you think will be the best person for the job.

The closing date for votes is Wednesday 14 August 2013.

Chairperson

What does the Chairperson do?

- Chair all meetings efficiently, effectively and fairly
- Prepare the agendas for meetings and ensure that any action agreed is followed up
- Organise officer meetings, and attending other meetings and events to represent FYC and the views of young people

Please take a look at the manifestos below and choose who you think should take on the role of the Chairperson.

Manifesto 1: "I have been an active member for Fareham Youth Council for almost five years running and I believe that, if I were to be elected as chairmen, I would be most beneficial as I have experience as other executive members of the council like vice chair and equality and diversity officer. As a long term member I have had past experience with council affairs and I have also chaired my own meeting, through my schools council and filling in at youth council, allowing for me to chair meetings and represent the council at outside events, as I have already been doing. I also have extensive projects already on the go which will help my understanding of larger community projects we may be running and or starting. I can also bring a lot of cards to the table as I have had experience as a school charity rep and have worked with Childline to better interpret information. I hope to push the youth council forward and work closely with every member."

Manifesto 2:"I believe that I would be a great candidate to move FYC forward, to develop new and exciting relationships with decision makers, and other youth groups either within Fareham or council groups near Fareham in order to join resources and get to deal with the issues that are affecting young people. During these times whereby the youth are seemingly scrutinised and the so called ‘hug -a-huddy’ hasn’t worked, young people must stick together and use whatever services are at our disposal and make the most of them in the most efficient way possible, and through extra engagement, preferably through the council connect, and an FYC member in every secondary school in Fareham, we can reach out, engage with the problems that our fellow peers are suffering and unite, speak out, and deal with these pressing issues that would otherwise go unnoticed.Vote for me as the Chairman of the Fareham Youth Council.... because Youth matters matter!"

Vice-Chairperson

What does the Vice-Chairperson do?

- Support the Chairperson at meetings and in between meetings
- Deputise for the Chairperson when necessary
- Take responsibility for specific projects of FYC
- Communicate with young people out of mainstream groups to inform and consult
- Make sure FYC updates are distributed to targetted groups
- Ensure there is no negative discrimination within FYC

Manifesto 1: "I believe I would make me good vice - chairperson as I have a lot of Ideas to help us concerning gaining new members. For example we could create posters and place them threw out town centre and I also have ideas on the careers fair. We could ask if businesses if they would give talks to the youth. I feel like I will support the chairperson well and will do my best at chairing when they are unable to attend. I have been attending Fareham youth council for over two years and I feel confident I will be able to put across the views of the youth of Fareham and their needs."

Manifesto 2: "I would like to apply for the position of Vice-Chairperson and Equality and Diversity officer as I believe I have the skills that need to be applied for this job. I will make sure when talking about things that we are contemplating to do in Fareham I will take into account how it will affect all ethnic groups and be accessible to all young people. I will also make sure that every-ones voice gets heard and that their points are taken seriously. I feel that I could be a good Vice-chairperson as I have a keen interest in making things better for young people. I am supportive and loyal to my friends and I like to get things done. I believe these attributes would help me to be good in the role as I will support the chair person to get things done. "
