Middle Road Park Gate (Completed 1998)

This scheme involved the complete refurbishment of an entire street and busy neighbourhood shopping centre.

The main objective of the scheme was to improve pedestrian priority and make it easier to cross what was previously a traffic dominated road. The road was narrowed where possible and circulation and parking arrangements were made more legible. The quality of road and footpath surfaces was improved. Railings were provided for the adjacent church of St Margaret Mary and a circular seat was placed under an old oak tree affording a shady focal point, which is a popular spot on a hot day. Trees and shrubs, some in timber plant containers, were also provided to improve the appearance of the area.

The environmental improvements prompted the improvement of the frontage of St Margaret Mary church.
