Chris Wood, the Conservative Ward Councillor for Stubbington, and Deputy Mayor of Fareham Borough Council, resigned from his position yesterday with immediate effect.
Mr Wood, who began his political career as a Hampshire County Councillor for Crofton Division in 2013, switched his allegiance from UKIP to the Conservative Party in October 2016.
The resignation causes a Casual Vacancy which will remain vacant until such time as two registered electors write to the Returning Officer to request a by-election. This will then follow a strict timetable and the poll will be held within 35 working days.
Until that date Cllr Heneghan remains the sole Member for the Stubbington ward.
