Welborne Garden Village will receive £275,000 from the Government. The news was announced by Housing and Planning Minister Alok Sharma MP.
The money will support Fareham Borough Council in bringing forward the new 6000-home community planned for north of the M27 at Fareham. It will be used to fund dedicated staff and studies and assessments that are all vital to the successful delivery of Welborne Garden Village, providing high-quality well-designed homes as well as new jobs and facilities and a boost to the local economy.
Welborne Garden Village is one of 14 Garden Villages announced in January last year to receive a share of the £3 million funding.
This funding comes hot on the heels of the purchase by Buckland Development Ltd of Dean Farm Estate, giving them ownership of more than 90% of the land required for Welborne, and the confirmation of their desire to act as both landowner and developer in delivering Welborne Garden Village
Cllr Seán Woodward, Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: 'I am delighted that the Government shares my faith in the potential for Welborne Garden Village to deliver the housing and jobs that the Borough needs. It recognises the effort required to make Welborne a distinctive, characterful development with a wide range of high quality facilities for its residents. This money means that vital work can be undertaken for Welborne, accelerating the delivery of housing without impacting on the other local services provided by the Council."
