Press Release

09 November 2017

Solent Airport at Daedalus Closed (updated 10 November)

Fareham Borough Council has confirmed that a suspicious object has been discovered during construction works on site to install a new sub station for Swordfish Business Park.   The Police are currently at the airport investigating the discovery.  The airport has been closed as a precaution.

Further details will be advised as soon as more information becomes available.

[Update 17:30] Bomb disposal experts are now on site to assess the situation. As part of this work, it has been necessary to put emergency road closures in place.  The affected roads are in the vicinity of the Stubbington Lane (from Ross House to the Golden Bowler) area.

[Update 20:15] We are advised that the Bomb Disposal Team will be continuing their investigations at Solent Airport into the night.  There are no plans to carry out a controlled explosion tonight, but the Team will be keeping the relevant agencies informed as their works progress.

Until such time as this work has been done, the road closures will remain in place, to allow the work to continue safely.  The airport also remains closed until further notice, but this does not affect Search and Rescue teams who continue to operate as normal.

[Update 10/11]  The object was removed from site for disposal early this morning.  All roads reopened at 7:00am and Solent Airport reopened at 10:00am.
