New homes for older generation

Fareham Borough Council's brand new sheltered housing scheme, Sylvan Court, welcomed its first residents at the end of last month.

The £4.8m scheme includes 36 flats for people aged over 60 with long term support needs and it boasts 25 one bedroom flats and 11 two bedrooms flats. Each new home includes under floor heating, modern décor, a fully fitted kitchen and a balcony or patio area.

The impressive building was constructed by Drew Smith Ltd and includes:

• Lounge area
• Hairdressing room
• Mobility scooter and bike store
• Landscaped gardens
• Parking
• Guest room
• Laundry room
• CCTV and secure door entry system.

Seventeen of the 36 flats have now been allocated and many of the tenants moving into Sylvan Court are relocating from other Council owned properties.

Executive Member for Health and Housing, Cllr Kay Mandry, said: "Sylvan Court is the second sheltered housing scheme we have built recently in Fareham; the first, Collingwood Court, was completed in 2015 and has been hugely successful.

It's really important that we provide much needed affordable and modern accommodation for the ageing population of the Borough and Sylvan Court will make a great home for those who live there."

Notes to editor:
• £720,000 funding was contributed by the Homes and Communities agency towards the cost of Sylvan Court.
• The £5m Collingwood Court scheme in Stow Crescent was completed in 2015 and includes 40 apartments for over 60s with long term support needs and comprises a mix of one and two-bed flats.
