Great Fareham Food Rescue

How much food do you throw away?

Throwing good food away costs the average UK family around £60 a month, but we often don't realise how much we are wasting. That's why we've launched the Great Fareham Food Rescue in partnership with Sainsbury's to encourage people to waste less and save more.

All this week events are taking place across the Borough aimed at raising awareness of food waste and giving people ideas about how they can cut down on what goes in the bin. Keep an eye on our website and social media for details of what's happening when.

As part of the campaign we're asking children to get involved by helping us design a takeaway bag for your leftovers when you eat out. This is aimed at reducing food waste from restaurants as around a third of what they throw away is food left on our plates.

Councillor Tiffany Harper, Executive Member for Streetscene, said: "By sharing ideas and food experiences, we want to demonstrate that we can reduce the food waste in our bins. The Great Food Rescue will be working with local schools, colleges, housing associations, families and community groups. The focus will be on fun and interesting food projects to save money by reducing food being binned."
