Press Release

3 April 2024

More people can now plug into free energy efficiency measures

Many more residents in Fareham can now benefit from warmer homes that are cheaper to run, following a change to the eligibility rules for the Warmer Homes programme.

The maximum income threshold for the grant has been changed to £36,000, increasing the eligible pool of households who can access free energy saving upgrades by nearly 20%.

Therefore, Fareham residents with an annual household income of £36,000 or less, who do not use a gas boiler as their main source for heating are eligible for the Warmer Homes programme and can apply to receive free energy-saving upgrades. This includes residents that have a gas cooker, but use electric storage heaters, electric boilers, panel heaters, oil, coal, solid fuel or Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) for their heating.

Energy-saving upgrades could include insulation, air source heat pumps, solar panels and more. Eligible households can receive up to £38,000 of upgrades at no cost, through funding secured from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero by a group of local authorities, including Fareham Borough Council.

The scheme will be open to applications until November 2024, with applications dealt with on a first come first serve basis.

Fareham residents can find out if they are eligible by visiting www.warmerhomes.org.uk. The Warmer Homes team can also be contacted on freephone 0800 038 5737 or at retrofit@warmerhomes.org.uk.
