Press Release

Fareham Community Lottery celebrates birthday

Fareham Borough Council and One Community are celebrating the third birthday of the Fareham Community Lottery.

The lottery was made possible through an award of Community Funding from Fareham Borough Council. Since its first draw on 13 March 2021, the Community Lottery has sold over 175,000 tickets and raised more than £105,000. This has helped to support around 70 different good causes per year from across the Borough.

In a time of shrinking budgets and increased community need, Fareham Community Lottery enables people to support the causes they care most about, helping good causes to connect with their supporters. For every £1 ticket purchased, 40p goes to a Fareham charity or community organisation. That is nearly double The National Lottery contribution rates and, those who purchase the tickets, can choose who they want their donation to go to. The rest of the money goes toward giving Fareham residents the chance to win cash prizes of up to £25,000.

One of the good causes is the Fareham Community Fund which supports useful and sustainable projects to benefit the largest number of Fareham's residents. The Community Lottery has provided in the region of £28,700 back to the Community Fund to help community groups achieve their goals by getting their projects off the ground.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Sue Walker said: “I am delighted that our Community Lottery has continued its success in the last three years, and I would like to thank the residents of Fareham for their ongoing generosity. We got the Community Lottery off the ground with an award from our Community Fund and I am so pleased to see that the Community Fund has received such an incredible amount back, which we can use to benefit the Fareham Community even further.”

Chief Executive of One Community, Hayley Malcolm added: “I am thrilled that the Fareham Community Lottery has continued to be so popular with our residents. It has helped to support so many good causes which benefit every generation of our community. If you’ve not played the Community Lottery yet, I encourage you to buy your tickets today!”
