Press Release

6 July 2023

Improvement works at Solent Airport

Fareham Borough Council has confirmed that essential improvement works to the runway and taxiways at Solent Airport will commence on Monday 10 July.  Allied Infrastructure has been appointed to carry out the works, which will take around eight weeks to complete.

The programme of works has been carefully scheduled to minimise disruption for tenants and neighbours, with shifts in place during daylight hours from 12pm until 10pm although there may be a limited number of shifts that will run until midnight to allow sufficient time for works to be completed while the airport is closed.  Any noisy activities will take place as early in the day as possible.

Cllr Seán Woodward, Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: ‘These works form part of the investment programme that was approved by the Council’s Executive last month.  The taxiways and runway shoulders at Solent Airport are a vital part of the airport’s infrastructure and must be properly maintained for the ongoing safety of our airport users.’

Neighbours to the airport may notice an increase in traffic and personnel around the local areas whilst works are being carried out.  All construction vehicles will be parked on the airfield and all efforts made to minimise any fumes, dust or debris created by the works.

The Solent Airport Investment Plan can be viewed from the Council’s website: www.fareham.gov.uk/saip.
