Book now for COVID-19 rapid community testing in Fareham

Fareham Borough Council is now taking bookings for COVID-19 rapid community testing from its testing centre at Fareham College which opens tomorrow.

This is only for people with no coronavirus symptoms, but who need to leave home for work. If you are unable to work from home, you are encouraged to book a test twice a week to help protect yourself, your family, friends, colleagues and the local community.

The testing centre will be open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and you will need to book your test at least 24 hours in advance by going to: https://www.fareham.gov.uk/coronavirus/latestadvice.aspx

Once you have booked your appointment, you must not eat anything for at least 30 minutes prior to your test. The procedure will take less than 20 minutes and you will be guided through the process to administer your own test which includes a swab of your nose and the back of your throat. You do not need to wait at the centre for your result as you will receive a test result in around 30 minutes via text message to your mobile phone. If your test result is positive, you and your household must isolate immediately for 10 days.

This scheme is being delivered by Hampshire County Council in partnership with district councils and the Department of Health and Social Care and will run for an initial six-week period. A total of 11 community testing sites are to be opened throughout Hampshire and is aimed at residents who travel regularly outside their home for work and who are not covered by an existing workplace testing scheme.

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Cllr Trevor Cartwright said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Fareham College for being so accommodating in opening their site to be our rapid community testing facility for Fareham.  I also thank all the people who have turned this project around so quickly.  I urge eligible residents to get tested regularly to prevent any further spread of the virus so that we can continue to see a reduction in cases and in deaths.”

Residents are reminded that anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, a high temperature, new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste should not attend a community testing site, but instead book a test at nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.
