Brand new Daedalus Common play area opens

The brand-new inclusive Daedalus Common play area was opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham today in a small socially distanced event.

Two pupils and teachers from Crofton Anne Dale Infant and Junior Schools helped officially open the play area, along with the Mayor, Cllr Pamela Bryant and the Mayoress, Cllr Mrs Clubley.

Located on the western edge of Solent Airport, Stubbington, the Daedalus Common play area is unlike anything else in the Borough. Consultation with residents and local schools helped contribute towards the design, taking inspiration from its surroundings next to the airport.

The aviation themed play area, designed and installed by Eibe Play, features a range of equipment for children of all ages and abilities, including a huge aeroplane themed multi-climbing unit suitable for children with reduced mobility, meaning all children can play and have fun together.

The play area also includes exciting equipment such as:

There is also an 18-space car park right next to the play area with some parent and child bays.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Sue Bell, said: “This play area is fantastic for the local community and visitors to the Borough. We know how important it is that all children, no matter what their abilities, can play together which is why the large multi-climbing unit is so exciting as children with reduced mobility  can access it and play with their friends, meaning nobody is left out.

“I would like to thank everyone that got involved in the consultation and shared their ideas to help come up with a design, and I hope the play area lives up to your expectations!

“There is still some work to be done with planting around the park which we will do in the spring, but I’m thrilled that the play equipment is ready to go just in time for the school holidays.”

The play area is now open to the public subject to Government restrictions; however, parents are reminded to take extra care by taking hand sanitiser with them, where possible wiping equipment down before use and washing hands thoroughly for 20 seconds as soon as possible on arriving home.
