Press Release

6 February 2020

Councillor leaves the Conservative Group

Fareham West Councillor, Leslie Keeble, has left the Conservative Group.

He will serve as an independent councillor with immediate effect.

The political balance of the Council is now as follows:

Conservative                23     74.19%

Liberal Democrat            4      12.9%

Independent                    3      9.68%

UKIP                                1      3.23%

Whilst there is a UKIP councillor a group cannot be formed by a single member and so for the purposes of the calculations of political proportionality for committee allocations, the UKIP councillor will be treated as an independent member.

The seats on committees previously held by Cllr Keeble will remain with the Conservatives until the committee allocations are recalculated and re-allocated at the next Council meeting on Friday 21 February.

Cllr Keeble’s term of office is 8 May 2018 – 9 May 2022.
