Remember to cast your vote in Titchfield

Residents in Titchfield are being reminded to head to the polls to cast their vote in the Titchfield Neighbourhood Planning Referendum.

It is the first time a neighbourhood planning referendum has taken place in the Fareham Borough and voting will take place at Titchfield Community Centre on Thursday 18 July.

Residents will be asked to vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the question: ‘Do you want Fareham Borough Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Titchfield to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?’

If more than 50 per cent of the votes are ‘yes’, then Fareham Borough Council will ‘make’ the Titchfield Neighbourhood Plan (TNP). Once made, the planning aspects from the TNP will be used to help determine planning applications in Titchfield. If more people vote ‘no’ than ‘yes’ then the Neighbourhood Plan will not be made part of the statutory Local Plan for the Fareham Borough.

Poll cards have been sent out and residents can vote if they are eligible to vote in a local government election and are registered to vote at an address in the referendum area – which is identical to the area which has been designated as the Titchfield Neighbourhood Area.

Polling hours are 7am to 10pm on Thursday 18 July and the count will take place on Friday 19 July with results announced afterwards.

Residents can find out more information about the referendum at http://www.fareham.gov.uk/planning/titchfieldneighbourhoodplan.aspx. There’s also a map on the website with a search button so people can see if they live within the neighbourhood plan area.

Cllr Keith Evans, Executive Member for Planning and Development, said: “It is essential that we hear the views of the people of Titchfield, so we are encouraging residents to turn out and vote on the neighbourhood plan.”
