Have your say on new Osborn Road car park plans

Fareham Borough Council has today launched a consultation on proposed plans for the replacement of the Osborn Road Multi-Storey car park in Fareham Town Centre.

The existing Osborn Road Multi-Storey is very outdated and is not economically viable to repair going forward. The Council is planning to replace this structure with a new surface car park later this year, in time for the opening of the new community arts and entertainment venue, Fareham Live, in early 2024. Plans for the new car park include around 139 modern sized spaces, solar energy generation and electric vehicle charging facilities. This brings the total number of parking spaces available within walking distance of the venue to over a thousand.

A consultation on the proposed plans is available now until 7 February and the Council is interested in hearing from residents and businesses close to the site to help ensure construction can be managed in a considerate way. You can find the consultation survey here.

The redevelopment of Osborn Road car park is a critical infrastructure project to not only support Fareham Live, but also the future regeneration of the Town Centre. This project will be part funded from income generated from parking charges, which is also used for enforcement against graffiti, littering, dog fouling, abandoned vehicles and parking violations throughout the Borough. The Council is also working with Shopmobility, currently based on the ground floor of the Osborn Road car park, to help relocate them to the Fareham Shopping Centre.

Councillor Joanne Burton, Executive Member for Health and Public Protection at Fareham Borough Council commented: “The existing Osborn Road car park needs to be replaced, so we are keen to create something which is not only beneficial for the future regeneration of the Town Centre but is also much more attractive and practical. I encourage residents and businesses close to the development to have their say on our plans and take part in the consultation survey.”
