Press Release

25 May 2022

Your community pantries need your help

Fareham Borough Council is encouraging local people to support its community pantries across the Borough, some of which are in urgent need of donations.

Community pantries allow residents on low income to get their groceries and provisions once a week at a reduced cost. However, since people have returned to work following Covid-19, donations have reduced and so have the number of people able to volunteer their time to help. In the meantime, the cost of living has increased significantly, and these pantries have become even more vital.

Residents are encouraged to donate anything they can, from food or financial donations to offering their time to help where needed.

There are two pantries which are in need of support:

Waypoint Community Hub

255 Hunts Pond Road, Titchfield Common, Fareham, PO14 4PG

Tel: 01489 579669 or email help@waypointchurch.org.uk

Woodsy’s Pantry

Portchester Hub, 2 New Parade, 38 West Street, Portchester, PO16 9UY

Tel: 023 9221 0048

These pantries need a different range of items at different times, so you can use the contact details above to find out more.

Fareham also has the Hampshire Food Revolution Community Pantry, located in central Fareham. This pantry is currently not in need of donations but is still available for those in need. You can find them at:

Henry Cort Drive, Fareham, PO15 6TL (Fareham Northwest Community Centre)

All the pantries are run slightly differently and have different needs and requirements. Residents are encouraged to contact their local pantry before they visit to check opening days, times and details of how to donate.

Executive Member for Leisure and Community at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Mrs Sue Walker said: “These community pantries offer a lifeline for local people who are on low incomes or have fallen on hard times following the pandemic. The pantries are doing everything they can to cope with the increase in demand for their services, but some are in need of the support and generosity of local people. I urge the local community to rally together to provide regular and ongoing support for these vital services.”

You can find out more about how you can donate and the sort of items needed on the Council’s website: https://www.fareham.gov.uk/coronavirus/donations.aspx
