Falklands 40th Anniversary Commemoration

Fareham residents are reminded that on Saturday 14 May 2022 there will be a commemoration event taking place in the pedestrianised area of West Street to mark the 40th Anniversary of Falklands Conflict.

A new memorial plaque will be unveiled at the Falklands Arch, along with the addition of 40 hand-made Pale Maiden flowers, the national flower of the Falklands.

From 10.30am, residents are invited to spectate HMS Collingwood exercising their 'Freedom of the Borough' by marching through the town centre, accompanied by the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines. This will be followed by an Arms Drill Display and Drumhead Service.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Seán Woodward, said: “I was in attendance 15 years ago when our Falklands Arch was installed in the presence of Baroness Margaret Thatcher. It is an honour to now be in attendance to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the end of the conflict. The new memorial plaque and the edition of 40 Pale Maiden flowers to the Falklands Arch will provide a lasting tribute to the 255 British task force servicemen lost their lives. The Drumhead Service is also a spectacle to behold and I encourage residents to attend and pay their respects.”
