Council Tax Energy Payments Underway in Fareham

As countries around the world come out of the Covid-19 pandemic, a surging demand for energy has meant that energy prices have increased. Over the past year, the price of gas alone has quadrupled.

While this problem is global, the Government announced that around 20 million households in England, in council tax bands A-D, will get a £150 rebate on their Council Tax.

Fareham Borough Council has commenced making the £150 Council Tax Energy Payments to residents who pay by Direct Debit.  The initial 27,000 payments will continue to be made to bank accounts over the next few weeks, and a remittance will be issued to all recipients explaining what the payment is for.

Where the Council does not hold residents’ bank account details, the Council Tax payer will be contacted by post to request this information. This will include a secure code and a link to the Council website, where residents will be able to securely upload their bank account details.

The payment is part of the Government’s scheme of assistance with the rising costs of energy bills:
