Council installs new payment machines at town centre car parks

It’s now more convenient to use the Council’s Fareham town centre car parks – thanks to new payment machines.

The newly installed machines at Market Quay, Osborn Road multi storey and the Shoppers multi storey car parks all offer contactless payments to help keep drivers safe. Each of the car parks also still offer cash or card chip and pin payments.

For extra convenience, drivers at Market Quay and Osborn Road can choose whether to pay by foot within the car park or to pay at the barrier as they exit.

All three carparks are set up for ‘quick exit’ which means that once you have paid, when you drive to the barrier, it will be raised automatically, so you don’t have to put your ticket into the exit payment machine.

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection at Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Trevor Cartwright, said: “I’m delighted that these new machines have been installed. The previous payment machines didn’t offer so many different ways to pay and sometimes generated faulty tickets. The new machines are touch screen and use the latest barcode technology, so drivers will have a much better parking experience. This in turn will help to encourage shoppers and visitors to the town centre.”
