Press Release

11 June 2021

Have your say on Fareham’s future development

The Council is inviting residents to have their say on future development across the Borough by taking part in the latest consultation on Fareham’s Local Plan.

The consultation on the Revised Publication Plan version of the Local Plan starts on Friday 18 June and runs until Friday 30 July.

This consultation is asking for views on the changes the Council has made in the Revised Publication Plan which now has space for more houses across the Borough. The increase in housing numbers is a result of further changes to Government guidance. The minimum number of new homes that Fareham is now required to deliver is 541 per year (an increase from the 403 per year consulted on last year).

Similar to the consultation held at the end of last year, and in order to reach as wide an audience as possible, the Council has created an online exhibition which will host all of the information about the proposals and link to the supporting evidence on the Council’s website.  Visit www.fareham.gov.uk/localplanconsultation from 18 June.

Subject to the relaxing of coronavirus restrictions, the Council is also hoping to hold physical meetings and exhibitions about the Plan.  Details of these meetings will be published on the Council’s website and social media pages as soon as it is confirmed that they can go ahead.

As with previous consultations, a special issue of Fareham Today will be online from 17 June and, subject to restrictions, from libraries across the Borough and from the Council’s offices.  It will also be delivered to homes between 26 June and 3 July.

Anyone who is unable to access the exhibition or the details of the Plan online can call 01329 824601 where they will be able to:

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “It is the Government’s National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), not the Council that determines how many new houses must be built each year. Unfortunately, the development of our Local Plan has been complicated by various changes to this and we are now in the position where our housing requirement has increased again.  We have worked hard to try to find the best way to deliver these additional new homes without compromising the area’s distinct characteristics.

“This consultation is the final opportunity to have your say before the new, Revised Publication Plan is submitted to the Government for examination. I urge everyone to have their say, so we can make sure the Plan works for everyone.”
