Press Release

3 November 2020

Council services update

Following the Prime Minister’s recent announcement, there will be a number of changes to Council services.

The Civic Offices

From Thursday 5 November, the Civic Offices will be closed to customers. Residents who need to contact the Council can get in touch via the following numbers:

Garden waste bags

Residents will not be able to collect reusable or disposable sacks from the Civic Offices during lockdown. If you need a reusable white garden waste sack or disposable bags you can request these by:

HWRCs

Household Waste Recycling Centres are run by Hampshire County Council. The County Council has confirmed that they will remain open during lockdown. The only change will be that the shop areas will close in line with all non-essential retail.

Leisure facilities

From Thursday, the Council’s sports pavilions and tennis courts will be closed, and sports pitches will not be available for hire. Unlike the first lockdown, the Council’s play areas will remain open.

The Borough’s leisure centres will close, however their car parks will remain open for those using the nearby open spaces. Westbury Manor Museum will close.

Events

The Christmas lights in the town centre will still be switched on but with no ceremony. The Council will mark the start of the festive season virtually.

The special church service planned for Remembrance Sunday is also cancelled but the Council will seek to arrange a small ceremony to allow the laying of wreaths at the memorial.

Support for business and vulnerable residents

The Council’s Finance Team is working on another round of grants to pay to those businesses forced to close over the next four weeks. We will work with our local traders to support them in the run up to the festive period. Further details will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, our Leisure and Community Officers are working with local voluntary agencies to ensure that we can provide support to vulnerable people during the lockdown.

Democracy

Our schedule of committee meetings will continue with as they are all currently being held virtually using Microsoft Teams.
