Fareham Borough Council working with food charities to bridge the gap for anyone who needs help

During these challenging times, some residents across the Borough may be struggling financially through no fault of their own.  This might be because their employment has ended or hours have been reduced as a result of Coronavirus, or their income is less because they have been furloughed or are self-employed.

Fareham Borough Council wants to reassure these residents that, if they don’t have enough income to buy food, help to bridge the gap is available.

Local charitable organisations such as Acts of Kindness and Waypoint Church are working hard to help any families that come to them for help, not just the vulnerable and shielded.

If you, or anyone you know may need help in bridging the gap, please contact either Acts of Kindness, 07726 577761 or Waypoint Church, 07934 726212 and they can provide support.

This work would not be possible without the fantastic public support they get from generous Fareham residents.  So, at the same time as offering help for those who need it, the Council would encourage any residents that can help by donating, to give what they can please.

Cllr Bell, Executive member for Leisure and Community said: “So far Fareham’s response has been amazing. Residents and businesses who want to help are donating food and money to the two charities leading the charge on providing food parcels.

“However, the Coronavirus crisis isn't over yet and the need to provide people with essential supplies may increase in the weeks to come, ensuring that nobody goes hungry is likely to continue. If you are willing and able to donate, please do so and don’t forget that they can also accept essential non-food items such as toiletries and hygiene products.

If you would like to donate items please visit the ‘Donations’ page on our website. It details donation points across the Borough in shops and supermarkets, a list of items needed and links for those who prefer to donate money direct to the charities. Visit: https://www.fareham.gov.uk/coronavirus/donations.

If you would like to donate essential items but are unable to leave the house, volunteers will pick these up from you, whilst maintaining social distancing. For information on how to donate from home please visit: https://www.fareham.gov.uk/coronavirus/donations.aspx#donationcollections.
