Press Release

25 November 2019

The Christmas lights are on in Fareham!

Thousands of people came along to Fareham town centre to join in the festivities at the annual Christmas lights switch on.

Crowds cheered as West Street was lit up during the Victorian Christmas themed event run by Fareham Borough Council on Sunday (24 November).

The grand finale was a performance of dance and song from the Greatest Showman with revellers singing along to numbers from the hit movie.

Local groups, South Downe Musical Society, Fareham Borough Council choir, Igloo Music, Spinnaker Brass and the Spinnaker Chorus took to the stage to perform to the audience during the day.

Bodyrox Productions, a local dance group, entertained the largest ever crowd at the event before the Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Pamela Bryant, pushed the plunger to light up the town.

Crowds were entertained by Victorian street performers from a chimney sweep, organ grinder, policeman, juggling stilt walkers to a roaming snow globe throughout the day.

Children had their faces painted and enjoyed visiting reindeer as well as going on fun fair rides at the event and festive market stalls lined the length of West Street.

A selection of pictures from the event can be found here.
