Line up announced for D-Day 75

Organisers of a D-Day 75 event in Fareham have announced the full line-up of a community event to mark the historic occasion.

Aircraft will be the focus of the Solent Airport event on Saturday 8 June and Sunday 9 June with the sky full of aerial displays and static aircraft on the ground.

The World’s only wing walker display team, the AeroSuperBatics, will be performing and the Great War Display Team will fly replica World War One aircraft over Fareham.

Tickets are selling fast with the star-studded list of aerial attractions including a spitfire, a Historic Army Aircraft Flight, a Heron, a Wasp, the Gazelle Squadron Display Team and a Fairchild Argus.

A parachute display team will be jumping from a Dakota on Saturday and the RN Raiders Parachute Display Team will perform on Sunday.

Solent Airport at Daedalus is the perfect place to mark the occasion as it was the busiest allied airfield in the UK on D-Day with more than 400 aircraft movements -  the largest number from any UK airbase.

On the ground, a display of static aircraft will include an Islander, a Defender, a Moth, a C42, a C182 Seaplane, a P51 Mustang and a Gazelle and Lynx from HMS Sultan – and a vintage car display.

Visitors to the family-friendly event will also enjoy a host of stage and arena performances including the Big Noise Samba Band, the South Downe Musical Society, the Gosport Solent Brass, the Team Green Rockets children’s motorcycle display team and the Hants and IOW Air Training Corps Wing Band.

Children’s fun fair rides, face painting, a science workshop and show, arts and crafts stalls, Lego building and stalls including Bells Crafts and Boozy Bakers will also be at the airfield event and many more.

Visitors can bring their own picnics or purchase food and drink at the event.

Tickets need to be bought in advance online from Ferneham Hall at www.fernehamhall.co.uk and from the Control Tower at Solent Airport. Free parking permits can be requested when buying tickets and will be issued on a first-come first-served basis.

A family ticket (two adults, two children) bought in advance is £25 for one day or £40 for the weekend; adult tickets are £8 each day or £15 for both and all-inclusive children £8 for one day or £12 for both.  Under 2s go free. Concessions and non-inclusive children’s tickets are also available.

Chairman of the Daedalus Steering Group, Cllr Trevor Cartwright, said: “We’re really excited about the fantastic line-up for D-Day 75 and know it’s going to be a weekend which will be remembered for years to come.

“Tickets are selling fast so don’t leave it too late to get yours to be part of this exciting community event.”
