Council awarded funding to help reduce homelessness

Fareham Borough Council has been awarded £30,000 of Government funding to help those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to find more permanent homes.

The money will be used to provide dedicated one-to-one tailored support to enable vulnerable people to maintain their tenancies and live independently.

The funding will also be used to encourage more landlords to work with Fareham Borough Council by offering an improved package of help and support, such as streamlining Housing Benefit payments and increased out of hours assistance.

The Council submitted its bid for the Private Rented Sector Access Fund last October and was one of 54 successful projects sharing £19.5 million of Government money nationwide.

Cllr Fred Birkett, Executive Member for Housing, said: “This money will make a real difference to people who need help to access homes in the private rented sector and we will use it to help as many people as possible.”

Any landlords who want to find out more about how they can work with us should contact the Accommodation Team on 01329 824370.
