Council receives £300K for Welborne Garden Village

Fareham Borough Council has been awarded £300K in capacity funding to help bring forward Welborne Garden Village.  The funding was announced earlier today by Housing Minister Kit Malthouse MP as part of a £9 million cash injection.

Welborne is a huge project for Fareham and will eventually provide 6,000 new homes.  Its designation as a Garden Village means it will benefit from design principles that enable residents to benefit from living in a well-planned community and it is these plans that will be helped by the new capacity funding.

Fareham Borough Council will work with the developer to set out the look and feel of the development such as what the open spaces and streets will look like, and the materials that will be used  Once everything is agreed it will form a ‘Design Code’ and this will be a source of reference throughout the life of the development.

Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Seán Woodward said: ‘We are delighted with today’s announcement as the funding confirms the Government’s commitment to helping us deliver Welborne Garden Village.’
